Minimalism Phase Two

Image

Minimalism Phase One

Image
1. An eye-catching simple image that features lots of negative space and can also include complementary or contrasting colors. Minimalist images should include a lot of empty space, contrasting colors. Another effective way of making the image eye-catching is the use of strong lines within the picture. 2. This image caught my eye because of how the red is so bold on the image and the diagonal lines and the black shadow really stand out against the color.  I like this minimalistic image because of the bold blue color of the wall and how the lines of the piping or whatever it is run through the image in a staggered way. The thing I found most compelling about this image was the different textures and contrasts in the photograph. The white contrasts with the black, and the white pops out against the red. I also like how the white and the red sections of the image have different textures and they stand out that way.

Gottfried Helnwein Image Cont.

I mentioned in my first interpretation of this image that from where the man look suspended on the girl's face and how he looked like he was climbing a wall, that this could be a large painting on the side of the building or something. As it turns out, this was a work that was installed on a wall in Ireland. Helwein's image is a large, blown up picture of a girl on the side of what looks like a wall or other structure near the water. At the bottom of image three, you can see a car and people down by the car. The girl's picture takes up the entire space on the wall spare a little bit on the top, as seen in image two. The image was most likely printed or painted onto something sturdy before posted onto the wall. To mount it on the wall, the image was most likely spliced together though you can't tell where the parts meet up. The image looks like it is in an industrial area close to the water, hence the name Waterford. The people who would most likely see this image would...

Gottfried Helnwein Response

Gottfried Helnwein's work is an close up image of a portion of someone's face. The image shows one of their eyes and eyebrows, their nose, their upper lip and a tiny person climbing up the center of the face as if it were a mountain and he was rock climbing. I think this is a picture was strategically shot so it looked as if the man were climbing the girl's face, when in reality, it could have been a painting on the side of a building or a wall or something, though the image doesn't really look painted on to anything. I think the photographer's intent was for the image to look like it was photoshopped, and he tried to convey the meaning of how perspective can change the way you think of things, possibly. The difference in scale between the man and the girl's face adds to my interpretation of the photography because the girl looks like a realistic girl, and the man could actually be climbing the face.

Lost in the World Questions

1. The general premise of the video is how people are so caught up in their cell phones and their electronics that they aren't paying attention to what is happening right in front of them. Also, everything that they do pay attention to is for recognition on social media and the internet.  2. Yes, the video is effective in conveying the intended message of how everyones is attached by the hip with their phones because in the video, no one pays attention to anything that's going on in the world around them, except for the one guy who doesn't have a phone. Even when the girl jumps off the building, everyone watches through their phones.  3. I feel like the video is a little bit of both, a cautionary tale and an examination of our current social situation. It could be a cautionary tale meaning how if you're not careful with balancing out you in life interactions and time on your phones, then that could hurt you in the future. It could also be an example of our cur...

Photographic Composition

Image
This image demonstrates texture because you can see the little bumps of the wall and you could almost imagine what it feels like.  This image shows pattern because the rectangles on each side of the smaller squares in the middle repeat and continue on.  This image shows contrast because the duller grey concrete on the left side of the image stands out from the vibrant green grass on the right.  This image shows depth because you can tell the different in position from the bark in the middle and the thinner branches in the background. The branches in the background are blurred and the big trunk in the front is clear and bold. This image shows symmetry because if you folded these rectangles in half you'd get basically the same image.  This image shows balance because there trees on either side of the picture level out the image.

What is Photography Questions

1. Erik poses the question of if his work was actually considered photography. 2. Erik's first real passion was drawing, and then he got into photography. 3. The conception of photography that Erik previously held was that photography was about being in the right place at the right time. 4. This inspired him to create something different. He wanted to create something where the "process starts once you press the trigger." 5. The "common goal" was to maintain a level of realism. 6. Realism was making the photos as realistic and seamless as possible, making sure that the pictures didn't look to choppy and natural. It's making sure that what you're looking at could actually be a photograph. 7. The principles that adhere to creating an image include making sure you get the brightness, the saturation, the desaturation at the right level to have the right amount of depth and making the picture look realistic. 8. It was easier to create a pla...
